Mitch Eisen

Mitch Eisen was called to the Bar in 1991 and has a wealth of experience conducting trials and appeals at all levels of court in the province of Ontario. 

In 1993 Mitch entered into a long and successful Partnership with Bernard Cugelman under the firm name “Cugelman & Eisen”. On Jan 1, 2025 upon Bernie’s full retirement, Mitch brought in the extremely capable Emily Dyer as his new partner.

Mitch holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from McGill University in Montreal and an L.L.B from the University of Toronto Law School, where he focused on criminal procedure and criminal litigation courses, winning awards in both these fields. Mitch rapidly built a wealth of invaluable experience in all areas of criminal defence law, conducting trials before both judges and juries, preliminary hearings, appeals, bail hearings and Charter of Rights motions.

Mitch has a well deserved reputation as a straight shooter and will advise you of all your potential defences, but he won’t sugar coat any possible difficulties that the defence might face with your file. Mitch works tirelessly to obtain the best results for his clients. His practice ranges from representing clients in all manner of criminal offences through regulatory federal and provincial offences and he has obtained acquittals on a wide variety of charges, including first degree murder, dangerous driving causing death, sexual assault, sexual interference, impaired driving, assault and domestic assault, drug and weapons offences, theft, and fraud. He is known in the Barrie legal community for his depth of experience, integrity, and excellent courtroom skills. He is recognized as a Certified Specialist in Criminal Law by the Law Society of Ontario.

In addition to his legal practice, Mitch has instructed and lectured at continuing education conferences and seminars organized by the Law Society of Ontario, the Ontario Bar Association, the Criminal Lawyers Association of Ontario, The Advocates Society, and the Simcoe County Law Association. He is a past president of the Criminal Lawyers Association of the County of Simcoe. In 1996, he took a year-long leave of absence and practised criminal law in New Zealand.  He is a sought-after commentator for local media on matters involving criminal law.  When not involved with his legal practice, Mitch can be found enjoying the outdoors on local tennis courts, golf courses, ice hockey rinks, and cross country ski trails.
